The aircraft, in summary.

The aircraft that redefined what an ultra-long-range cabin could be. A 7,500-nautical-mile reach, Mach 0.925 on the clock, a cabin altitude of 3,290 feet at 41,000 — and more than one hundred and thirty world speed records on the books.

Hanover Jets brokers charter flights on the Gulfstream G650ER, the ultra-long-range flagship introduced by Gulfstream Aerospace in 2014 as an extended-range development of the G650. More than five hundred airframes of the G650 series are in service worldwide. The G650ER is the standing recommendation of the office for non-stop transoceanic routings and for any flight exceeding six thousand nautical miles.

The aircraft’s defining figures are a maximum range of 7,500 nautical miles at Mach 0.85 — enough to connect New York to Tokyo, Los Angeles to Dubai, or Sydney to Los Angeles without intermediate fuel. Its two Rolls-Royce BR725 engines produce 17,000 pounds of thrust each, and the airframe is rated to an operating Mach 0.925, placing it among the fastest civil aircraft in commercial service. Cabin pressurisation maintains a 3,290-foot cabin altitude at a 41,000-foot cruise — a measurable reduction in arrival fatigue that is recognised, but rarely advertised, by those who fly the type regularly.

The G650ER remains in production alongside the newer Gulfstream G700, which replaced it at the top of the Gulfstream range in 2024. For Hanover’s clientele, the distinction is largely a matter of cabin volume rather than capability. The G650ER is not being retired. Its airframes will continue in service, and on the roster, for decades.

The cabin.

— Typical configuration

Four zones, ||of cabin.||

The G650ER cabin is the longest in its class — forty-six feet ten inches from the galley bulkhead to the aft lavatory. The floor is flat, without steps, allowing movement throughout the aircraft during cruise. A typical configuration places a forward galley, a club-four conference zone, a dining group of four, and an aft stateroom with convertible divan and private lavatory.

The cabin is widely regarded as the quietest in service. Noise levels in cruise fall below fifty decibels — conversational at a normal voice, without raised pitch. The pressurisation system maintains a cabin altitude of 3,290 feet at 41,000 feet of cruise; the perceptible effect, on long sectors, is the absence of the jet-lag component typically attributed to flight itself.

A note, on the aircraft.

— On the G650, G650ER, and the G700 question

A recurring question from correspondents: does the arrival of the Gulfstream G700 in 2024 mean the G650ER is now second-best? The short answer is no. The G700 offers a longer cabin, an additional ten inches of height, and five living zones instead of four — differences that matter over fifteen hours of flight. But on the aircraft's defining capability — range, speed, altitude — the G650ER and G700 are near-identical. The G650ER will remain the workhorse of the ultra-long-range charter market for at least another decade. The office dispatches it with confidence, and without qualification.

Questions, in the ordinary course.

What is the range of the Gulfstream G650ER?

The Gulfstream G650ER has a maximum range of 7,500 nautical miles — approximately 13,890 kilometres — at Mach 0.85 cruise with eight passengers and NBAA reserves. At Mach 0.90 high-speed cruise, range reduces to 6,400 nautical miles. The ER variant extends the original G650's range by five hundred nautical miles through increased fuel capacity.

How much does it cost to charter a Gulfstream G650ER?

The G650ER charters at approximately $11,500 to $15,500 per hour, depending on operator, origin, and seasonal demand. As one-way examples: New York to London typically $65,000 to $85,000; London to Dubai $75,000 to $95,000; New York to Tokyo $140,000 to $175,000. Quotes from Hanover Jets are all-in: aircraft, crew, fuel, landing fees, and standard catering.

How many passengers does the G650ER carry?

The Gulfstream G650ER is certified for up to nineteen passengers. The typical four-zone configuration carries fourteen, with berths for up to ten on overnight long-haul flights. Standard crew is two pilots and one or two cabin attendants.

What is the difference between the G650 and the G650ER?

The G650ER, introduced in 2014, adds 500 nautical miles of range over the original G650 — 7,500 versus 7,000 nautical miles — through increased fuel capacity. All other dimensions, engines, and performance figures are identical. Existing G650 airframes can be retrofitted to ER specification at an authorised Gulfstream service centre.

How fast is the G650ER?

The G650ER has a maximum operating Mach number of 0.925 — among the fastest civil aircraft in production service. Normal long-range cruise is Mach 0.85, high-speed cruise Mach 0.90. The type holds more than one hundred and thirty world speed records.

What engines does the G650ER use?

The Gulfstream G650ER is powered by two Rolls-Royce BR725 engines, each producing 17,000 pounds of thrust. The BR725 is a derivative of the earlier BR715 developed for the Boeing 717, optimised for the G650 application with redesigned fan, combustor, and turbine sections.

How does the G650ER compare to the G700?

The Gulfstream G700, which entered service in 2024, replaced the G650 at the top of the Gulfstream range. It offers a longer fuselage, an additional ten inches of cabin height, five living areas rather than four, and a marginally longer range of 7,750 nautical miles at Mach 0.85. On defining capability — range, speed, altitude — the two aircraft are near-identical. The G650ER remains in production and service.

What routes can the G650ER fly non-stop?

At 7,500 nautical miles, the G650ER can fly non-stop between most major global city pairs. Representative non-stops: New York to Tokyo, Los Angeles to Dubai, Sydney to Los Angeles, Hong Kong to New York, Singapore to San Francisco, Dubai to New York, London to Buenos Aires. The aircraft's longest payload-capable demonstration was a Sydney to Detroit delivery flight of 8,250 nautical miles.
